Aurealis Awards
May 21st, 2012

I’m delighted and a bit shocked to announce that Ember and Ash has won the Aurealis Award for Best Fantasy Novel of 2011. Thank you to everyone concerned with the awards (especially the judges, of course!) and to all those who have found ways of congratulating me over the past few days.

Congratulations also to the other winners: see http://www.aurealisawards.com/media-release_winners2011.pdf for the details. I was particularly chuffed when old friend Christopher Cheng won the Best Children’s Fiction award for Sounds Spooky.

Fastest Ship in Space Ebook
November 4th, 2011
Now that the 21st century is well and truly here I am starting to make my backlist available via Ebooks.

The first one is now available – The Fastest Ship in Space. It was published in paperback as Shipborn but I never really liked the title.

The book is for children not adults but if you have any kids they should enjoy this story of kids, pirates and smugglers travelling around the Solar System.

You can find it here on Amazon.com.

Bookbag review
May 29th, 2011

There’s an excellent review of Ember and Ash by Robert James at The Bookbag site.  I was particularly chuffed by the line: ‘this is an accomplished novel with some beautiful writing and is a definite recommendation for fantasy fans’.  To read the full review, including the bits he didn’t like, go here.

Writers on rafts – Queensland floods
January 21st, 2011

I’m part of Writers on rafts, which is an initiative of Queensland Writers Centre and author Rebecca Sparrow to raise money for the Queensland Premier’s Flood Relief Appeal. More than 150 Australian authors have pledged prizes.

  • To enter Writers on Rafts go to http://www.writersonrafts.com
  • Purchase as many tickets as you like in as many categories as you want!
  • Every ticket is one chance to win for a lucky person in every state and territory.
  • Every dollar goes directly to the Queensland Premier’s Flood Relief Appeal to help victims of the Queensland floods.
  • QWC’s goal is to raise $10,000 through Writers On Rafts.
  • We will be conducting the draw on Friday, 25 February.

Go buy tickets – for anyone interested in the literary world, there are some great prizes!

Omnibus review
January 11th, 2011

Have a look at this review of the trilogy. A very thoughtful review which really touched me. It’s lovely when a reviewer understands the deeper meaning of a story and responds to it. Thanks, Lone Bear!
