Denvention here I come
July 14th, 2008

Counting the days until the Denver World Con. If you are attending, here is my schedule so far:

Thursday 1.00pm The Return of the King: the novelist’s fascination with monarchy (this panel was my idea, so I’d better put on a good performance!)

Friday 5.30pm Reading - and yes, I will be reading at least a small section from Deep Water!

Saturday 11.30am Keeping a Job: What writers do to support their writing

I will add locations if they are confirmed before I get on the plane. Hope to see you there!

Meet Pamela at Wiscon
March 2nd, 2008

I will be speaking at Wiscon 32 at the end of May in Madison, Wisconsin.  Wiscon is dubbed ‘The world’s leading feminist science fiction convention’ and offers a stimulating and extremely varied program, including quite a lot about fantasy writing.  I’ll be giving presentations and reading (maybe even from the new book, Deep Water!).  Come and meet me there!

Contemporary Fiction Festival
February 1st, 2008

I’ll be appearing at the NSW Writers’ Centre’s Contemporary Fiction Festival on Sunday, 29th March, participating in a panel about writing your first adult novel - lots to say about that after writing 17 kids’ books before I published Blood Ties! See www.nswwriterscentre.org.au for details.

Aurealis Awards
February 1st, 2008

Last weekend I went to the Aurealis Awards in Brisbane. Congratulations to all the shortlisted authors and the winners, especially Cat Sparks and David Kowalski, the winners of the Golden Aurealis Awards for short and long fiction, respectively. A special mention must be made of Kate Forsyth, whose Chain of Charms series won FIVE times - that is, she was shortlisted for books 2-5 in the series and the judges couldn’t choose between them, so she received the Aurealis for Best Children’s Long Fiction for all of them. (The full list of winners is at www.aurealis.com.au)

It was a lovely evening and congratulations should go to all the organisers, especially Awards Director Ron Serdiuk.

The Awards weekend includes a breakfast and an industry seminar. Both were well attended and a great place for new writers to make contacts in the industry.
